Dear Children and Families,
Welcome back. A happy new year to you all. Many thanks for all your Christmas wishes and gifts, they are very much appreciated. I hope you have enjoyed your Christmas break and you are ready for an exciting term of learning.
Well, we are now in the Spring Term of Year 6. Where does the time go? This term our focus is revision and being test ready. This is clearly an important time for you as we begin to gear up towards your SATs which will take place in May. Covering the curriculum whilst producing our study work books will be completed over both the spring and summer terms. This allows for solid preparations to take place for SATs whilst taking the pressure off completing a full study work book for each term. We will be working hard to reach the high targets that you set yourselves and remember, nothing worth achieving is easy, so don't settle for second best.
This term's learning is based around another super book, Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis. This heart-soaring read will sweep you to the Scottish countryside where you will be introduced to the valleys of pine and heather; the homeland of Callum and Iona. This friendship promises to keep their amazing discovery secret, but can they keep it safe from harm? The wildlife adventure will have you on the edge of your seat as you discover that there is hope — even in sadness. Our BIG ART project, which is linked to our DT unit, will allow us to use sculpturing skills to create a flock of ospreys which will also form our study work book front covers. This project will bring our story to life and result in our very own flock soaring in our classroom.
The organisation of the week is as follows:
PE will continue to take place on Wednesday afternoons so please ensure a full kit is in school, correctly labelled. These sessions will be taught by Mr Turner who will also run after school sports clubs.
Homework will continue to be set each Friday. I continue to encourage you to complete all your homework fully and on time. Homework clubs will be available during the week to support this. Please be sure to use them whenever you need to. Homework will be checked and marked each Friday, including Spag.com.
Spellings, Spag, times tables testing, arithmetic testing and reading diary checks will continue to take place on a Friday morning, so please ensure all relevant books are in school.
MyMaths and Spag online homework will be set every Friday with at least one task to be completed. If you are unable to complete these tasks at home, please let me know and I will arrange for you to complete them in school. TT Rock Stars is proving to be very successful in our class. It is important to keep practising your times tables, as your quick recall is vital for your Maths SAT papers. At times, during this term, you will also be set reading comprehension tasks to be completed.
I know we will continue to be a strong partnership, if there is anything you need to discuss I am on the door most mornings and afternoons. If you require a longer chat, please could you make an alternative time with either myself, or through the office.
I am thoroughly looking forward to our time together, remember to shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you'll land upon the stars.
This term's holistic plan will be uploaded shortly.
