Thank you for sharing photos, information, family tree of relatives connected to WW1. We have enjoyed sharing them this week as part of our Remembrance Day work.
We have been focusing on the 306 British soldiers were shot for cowardice, desertion or other offences in the 1914-1918 war and that they were not recognised on war memorials or as victims of the war for a many years. It is now thought that many of those shot for cowardice were suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after enduring months of artillery bombardment in the trenches. Their relatives campaigned for decades to obtain pardons and a blanket pardon was issued in 2006. We have explored ideas about why they may have deserted, what they must have been going through and thought about how it affected their families. We have created a memorial cross of poppies containing the names all the 306.
On Wednesday we thoroughly enjoyed an ICT programming workshop at Shavington High School. We looked at a variety of devices and programs.
In Literacy we have been bringing to a close our argument unit and using some of the issues from our story as a starting point for writing, including if we had refugees on our doorstep would we offer aid.
Maths has been focused on angles, using a protractor to measure and draw them; using key facts to find angles without measuring and we have even got as far as z and f angles.
We have began looking at Ancient Civilisations as a history project.
We have also been busy with our responsibility posts, organising school council elections, inter house football competitions and Children in Need Activities.
A reminder that next Thursday is our rescheduled visit for river study.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Chesters and Miss Rowley
