This week in Year 5 we have been artists, multipliers and describers...

In English we edited our forest descriptions. We explored ways of improving our writing through better adjectives, similes and metaphors. This led to some beautifully finished and very dark descriptions. It was then time to describe the forest in the day — we explored how this might change the mood and tone of our writing. We came up with super similes, marvellous metaphors and awesome adjectives to create useful word banks for our writing. It was great to see the contrast in children's writing and how all the children used mood to create a particularly peaceful and calming atmosphere in their forests.

In Maths we wrapped up our multiplication and division topic. We recapped both division and multiplication methods whilst having a particular focus on word problems and our reasoning skills this week. We sat our test on Thursday and got some great scores! Well done everybody!

In R.E we asked the question 'How do we feel when confessing something we have done wrong?'. An interesting debate was sparked with children all contributing to share some important and thoughtful ideas. We talked about how lying can sometimes feel like 'we are getting heavier' and that when you confess you 'feel lighter because of it'. We explored the idea that no matter what we have done wrong our friends and family will forgive us. But others said that this forgiveness might take time if you've really hurt someone. Well done everybody.

In Music we started to learn our song by Adele "Make You Feel My Love". Which we discovered is a cover of a famous Bob Dylan song. We sang the lyrics and explored the meaning behind them.

In our afternoon sessions we continued with History, looking at the timeline of the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Some beautiful study work has come out of this which I know lots of you are proud of.

Children have been working hard to earn their cinema treat of going to watch ""Early Man". We are now up to 9 points and well on our way to 50!

For the next two weeks we will be looking at newspaper reports in English. Please bring in any news reports that you have at home as this will be a great starting point for our topic.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
