Year 5 Weekly News

This week in Year 5 we have been advertisers, news presenters and philosophers...

In English this week we have been discussing our writing in terms of mood and tone. Our challenge was to write about the forest from our story (Wolf Brother) in a dark and atmospheric tone. We explored how similes, metaphors and personification can really improve our writing and ensure we are writing for the correct purpose. We wrote some powerful and descriptive paragraphs to bring the Stone Age forest to life! Here are some of my favourites:

"As the threatening night casted over the forest the whispering willows started to murmur " — Rhys

"He looked up and saw the branches of the trees arched above him, behind them was the pearly moon watching his movements. Darkness followed him through the forest" — Arabella

"Lightning fractured the dim and gloomy night sky. It spread across the world above like a series of intricate veins" — Lila

I can't wait to read more!

In Maths we showed off our multiplication and division skills. It was so refreshing to see how much TT Rockstars has influenced both your attitude and ability of your times tables knowledge. We discussed factors, prime factors, common factors, and also the long multiplication method. Everyone's attitude has been fantastic, next week will see us recap division methods and facts.

In History this week we have delved into our topic. We explored the Stone Age timeline and identified how it could be split into three time periods. Can you remember what they were? CLUE* ...LITHIC
We created adverts for the bow an arrow and became TV presenters to present on the BREAKING NEWS of Skara Brae. We loved seeing Ben playing the role of Jenny Bonson! Next week we will continue our study work page and look further at our timeline leading to the bronze and iron age!

In R.E we explored the role that forgiveness plays in the Christian faith. We talked about mistakes and sins. We learned that a confession is where we tell God our sins.

This was the first week of our split P.E sessions and we felt very happy with the change. Well done everybody!

I will send out letters about our trip next week, so keep an eye out!

Booster Club starts next Tuesday — So if invited please return your slip.

Have a brilliant weekend,

Mr Dale
