Year 5 Weekly News

This week we have been code-breakers, performers and reporters.

In English we wrapped up our newspaper report writing. We ended up with a beautiful piece of study work that we are very excited to share with our friends and families. After researching the wolf who escaped, we wrote our own version including headline, opinions, quotes and even an aura!

In Maths we stepped up our fractions work once more. We continued to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and used pictorials to help us. We then moved on to ordering fractions, investigating how to do this when fractions have different denominators was a tricky task but we've nearly cracked it!

In R.E we used role play to explore what happens when we confess our sins or mistakes and also what might happen if we lie and hide them. The children were very grown up in exploring the different scenarios and al agreed that it's much better to tell the truth even if sometimes that can be a scary prospect!

In Music we continued to fine tune our Adele track; Make You Feel My Love. We will soon be ready to perform it as a YouTube video!

In Book Club this week we looked at a newspaper text and explored the life of Harry Houdini (the famous escapologist). The children are getting really good at unpicking the text and applying this within their comprehension answers. Well done guys!

We've also had some excellent topic based work in that children have done on their own at home! Detailed drawings, stories and Amelie even created a whole 20 page fact file! Well done everyone. This coupled with brilliant attitude to learning means that we are now on 42 points! Just 8 away from our Early Man trip! We can do this!
