So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...

Y6 you are just superstars. There are no other words to describe how I feel about you all in these...
Year 5 Weekly News
This week Year 5 have been racing landsaliers, swimming, investigating, measuring, calculating and OH...We even managed to get some English done too!
Our week started with an exciting bang, as on Monday it was time to race our landsailers. Three different courses and 8 hairdryers (thanks to the teachers) later we were good to go! We thought about what we were investigating and it was brilliant to hear all the children using language like "friction, air resistance, drag and wind direction". We used the hairdryers to power our landsailers and it was such great fun to see them go hurtling along the courses at some rapid (fairly) speeds. It was also interesting to see which landsailers had issues and we discussed these as a class, using scientific reasoning to back up our claims! Well done Y5! We have now started to write up our findings and results all ready for an awesome study work page...

In English we focused upon instructions; thinking about different examples, why we use them and the features first. We came up with our own checklists and used an example to help us think about the layout too. We then started to plan and draft a set of instructions for our landsailer. We had to include imperative verbs, adverbs, time words, top tips and had to ensure our steps were in chronological order. We've now started to write up our instructions, which will accompany our science study work page!
In computing we researched our trip. We used search engines and our navigational skills to find out information about Liverpool World Museum. We then carried on our computer unit on Espresso Coding.
In Maths we began a new unit on perimeter and area. We recapped perimeter this week and looked at finding the missing lengths of compound shapes. Next week we will begin to look at area and some different measures we use in everyday life!
On Tuesday we had our penultimate swimming lesson. We are allowed to wear our pyjamas in the pool next week. If you would like to do this please remember to pack your pyjamas in your swimming bag on Tuesday, as this is our last week!
Please remember that next Monday is our trip to Liverpool World Museum. We will be looking at different parts of the museum and its exhibits whilst also having our Ancient Greece workshop, that we are very excited about!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Dale
