This week in Year 5 we have been poets, songwriters, cave people and Interfaith explorers!

In English this week we started a new unit on poems. We began by looking at different poems and exploring their rules. We used a poem called 'Making Fire' to create our own poems, we had to make sure we stuck to the rules! Listen to Olivia's! It is called 'The Hunt'. We then looked at a very funny song called "We Will Rock You" — The Stone Age edition of course! We learned the rules and applied our Stone Age knowledge to create our own new lyrics. We will look at creating our own rhyming couplet poem all about our class story next week.

In Maths we continued with our fractions work. Everybody is trying so hard to crack fractions as a topic, I am very proud. We recapped how to order fractions with different denominators and also looked at our reasoning skills too. Towards the end of the week, we started to look at adding and subtracting fractions, we will continue this into next week!

In Science we began our topic of animals including humans. We have so far looked at the human life-cycle and talked about the different stages we go through in our lives all the way up to old age. We had an active discussions around human characteristics and where we our genetic makeup comes from! We soon realised that our family members often had similar hair colour, eye colour and physical appearances to ourselves! We will continue investigating next week. I have asked for baby pictures for Monday as we will look to compare our baby pictures with what we look like now — noting the key physical, emotional and mental changes!

This week has been interfaith week whereby we explore different faiths and their beliefs. For this years interfaith, year 5 have been exploring the Islamic Faith. We talked about what we already knew and went over some key misconceptions too. We realised that both Islam and Christianity have many similatires and shared values. Our week was focussed all around love. We learned what the Arabic symbol for love and created artwork around this. We shared our work and learning in Friday's Worship. Take a look!

In Computing we continued with Code Studio. Our coding skills are becoming brilliant! We also learned how to use the app 'Devolve Me'. The app shows what you would look like in Stone Age times! We even 'Devolved' Mrs Casserley and Mrs Chesters. When 'Devolving' Mr Dale there wasn't much of a difference! Check out our YouTube vid! — a hopefully victorious Mr Dale
