Our week in three works — rounding, writing and role-play. Oh and a Greek temple has appear in our classroom too!

At the beginning of the week, we recapped our Year 4 knowledge of rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We were a little bit unsure at the beginning of the week, but we got there in the end and by Wednesday we moved on to looking at numbers up to 100,000. This involved checking the place value of each digit. We then used this knowledge to compare and order 5 and 6-digit numbers.

In English, we were introduced to a monstrous beast — the Minotaur! We watched clips and studied pictures to gather words and create noun-phrases and adverbial phrases (it was a great chance for us to refresh our thesaurus and dictionary skills too). Finally, we then weaved these words together to create fantastic descriptive writing.

Friday morning was a little different though, we were visited by Hi-Impact (Computing specialists) who taught a great lesson and showed us how to use databases. We learnt how to input data, use formula and add pictures. It was great fun.

We have kept busy each afternoon by delving into the history of the Ancient Greece. We learnt that the Ancient Greek era can be divided into four main periods; we learnt how pottery can be used to identify these periods. The following day, Tuesday, we moved onto designing out own pots in the era of our choice. Then, on Wednesday it was PE and you all jumped back into learning about hockey. Towards the end of the week, we started our new R.E. topic — Good News — and used role-play and freeze frames to recreate 'The Parable of the 'Paralysed Man'.

It's been a busy week but a great week too.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss P
