What a lovely week we had in Year 5!

In our Maths lessons this last week we learnt about place value. We learnt about numbers to 10,000, rounding to 10, 100 and partitioning numbers in 10, 100, 1000 and 10,0000. In our English lessons last week we have continued to write our time capsule letters. We focused on organising our paragraphs around a theme and including factual information.

Our Year 5 SPAG work began by recapping nouns and pronouns. It was great to see how quickly our confidence and knowledge grew during the lesson.

In our art lessons, we continued to work on our colouring mixing skills and making the perfect colours for our Queen Victoria portrait. To add shading and depth to our work, we used oil pastels over the top of our watercolours to show the light and dark.

Throughout this week, we have started to learn about the Victorian era. In particular, who Queen Victoria was and what her life was like. Using the internet, books and information text, we gathered facts about Queen Victoria and her life.

In Science we explored our prior knowledge related to Forces and investigated the forces that could be made when manipulating a piece of foil and when observing the movement of a golf ball. We sorted a range of science vocabulary to match the correct definition, and these words will form the basis of our new topic.

In PSHE we learnt about our power button and explored this symbol in relation to how we can love ourselves and others. We created a poster to display our thoughts.

We also recapped our French learning from year 4. I was blown away by the amount you could remember. We practiced head shoulders, knees and toes in french, how to follow classroom instructions and different actions. You were all amazing.

In PE we started our new unit – Hockey. We started by learning how to hold the hockey stick, how to straight dribble and loose dribble. We practiced keeping control of the ball by keeping it close to the stick and making sure we were looking up. We played a fantastic game of 'rob the nest'. The aim of the game was to rob all of the hickey balls from the other teams hoops. The winner was the team with the most balls in their hoop at the end.

It was a lovely week of lots of learning.
