Year 4's trip to Little Moreton Hall

Home » News » Year 4's trip

What a fantastic school visit to Little Moreton Hall!

On Thursday, Year 4 took a step back in time to experience what life was like in Tudor England. As we arrived we were escorted up the small stone pathway. There in front of us stood the magnificent Little Moreton Hall. We were greeted by Master Bernard, Mistress Mary and Mistress Beth.

For the day we were split into two groups. Firstly, we experienced what life would be like if you were a rich or poor Tudor and what the items you might have owned. We were then shown how Little Moreton Hall began as only a small rectangular build.

After this, we were shown how Little Moreton Hall was built out of merely just oak beans, wooden pegs, slate roof tiles and wattle and daub. We were told all about how the slates for the roof were made too.

At lunchtime we were able to sit outside and eat our lunch in the courtyard. The weather was glorious! The staff at Little Moreton very kindly gave us picnic blankets to sit on — so most of us in Year 4 had our first picnic of 2018. We were even visited by some baby ducklings whilst having our lunch. It was just perfect!

To end our day we took the spiral staircase up into the long gallery, learnt all about the different herbs and spices they used in Tudor times and even got to make a bag ourselves!

It was a fantastic trip and I hope all the children enjoyed it and learnt as much as I did!
