Year 4 Theme Day!

YUM YUM YUM!

On Monday, Year 4 had their Chinese Theme Day! In the morning, we learnt how to write our name in Chinese. We used the Chinese alphabet to write our name on a piece of paper. We were then given somebody else's paper and had to be 'codebreakers' to work out whose name we had. It was great to see how even the slightest change to the symbol can make you think it is a completely different letter.

After this, we created our own story using Chinese symbols. We tried to be as creative a possible but limit the amount of symbols we could use. We then wrote our symbols on a lollipop stick to recreate the look of a Chinese slat book. Then, we played Chinese whispers and spent some time on Fort Lewis.

After breaktime, the children became volcano experts. We worked in small groups to create a script explaining everything that we know about. We then used the green screen app to transport the children to the side of the volcano.

Finally, in the afternoon, it was the moment we had all been waiting for... take-away!!! We set the tables with our napkins, cutlery and chopsticks and it began. The children were given a plate full of food to try which included sweet and sour chicken, crispy chilli beef, boiled and egg fried rice, noodles, seaweed and plenty of prawn crackers! All the children were encouraged to try everything and attempt to use chopsticks. The food was a great success (I have never seen so many clean plates).

Thank you to everyone for the fantastic costumes and delicious treats which were brought in. We had a truly fantastic day exploring Chinese culture and food.
