What a strange week in Year 4!

We had a bit of a learning environment change this week. Due to the Year 6 SATS, and because we are very kind here in Year 4, every morning we traded our classroom for the hall to allow those very cleaver cookies in Year 6 to concentrate on their big week of challenges.

Now, with having a great big open space to learn in, we have also mixed up our usual learning week. This week, we had a big focus on science. The science topic we have being learning about is all to do with animals (including humans). Our first focus in this topic has been the digestive system. We spent sometime within groups to create a diagram on what we thought the digestive system was. We had some very interesting ideas. Then, we discovered how the digestive system actually works and what parts of our body play a role within it. Next, we looked more closely at teeth, and their role within the system. We now know all about the different types of teeth, their jobs and when they start growing. We didn't just stop there though; we have also set up an experiment on how different liquids affect the enamel of our teeth using eggs but ...you'll have to wait until next week to find out the results!

This week in maths, we have moved onto a new unit of work; fractions and decimals. The lessons this week have focused on fractions and in particular, finding equivalent fractions, the value of them, and adding and subtracting them. However, that isn't the only thing we have been up to. Within our starters, we have also being covering place value questions and have even taken an end of unit challenge on it. Wow! That is a lot of learning!

In the afternoons, we have had a sports day practice in preparation for next week, continued with our music lessons, where we are learning 'Lean on me' and have also managed to squeeze in some study work too! We had a beautiful RE lesson where we learnt about Jewish marriage, we considered what was the same and what was different to a Christian wedding and looked at the special features of a Jewish wedding. With this in mind we began to create our own Ketubah, thinking carefully about what values we held of marriage. They are wonderful.

It's been a rather busy and unusual week but Year 4 have risen to the challenge. Bring on next week, where we will have our sports day and our Tudor trip.

Make sure to have a relaxing and fun weekend and I will see you all again for another smashing week in Year 4.
