Our first full week back after the Christmas holidays is complete.

This week has been an interesting start to our new book.

In English, we have started to plan our own TV advert to sell the fireworks which Lila invents. We have looked at the best ways to sell a product, the features which we need to include to grab people's attention and the key vocabulary which is important to our advert. Next week, we look forward to developing this idea further!

We have done a lot of work based on Geography this week. We have learnt about the different layers of the earth, tectonic plates and how a volcano is formed.

As part of our big art we have completed our volcano drawings. Firstly, we drew our volcanoes using grey scale oil pastels. Then, we used the effect of blowing ink to look like an eruption exploding out of our volcanoes. They look very effective and have been placed all around our Year 4 classroom. We have also created our own Chinese dragon. He is made out of paper plates which the children designed based on Chinese symbols. We looks lovely hanging in our classroom entrance and will be a lovely surprise for our class on Monday (they have not seen him hung up yet).

In Maths this week, the children have learnt about factors. We used factor bugs to work out the factors in some very difficult numbers. In addition, the children have created posters to explain to other classes how to use number bugs to work out the factors — see if they can show you at home!

It has been an explosive week in Year 4.
