Wow these weeks are flying by!

In our Maths learning this week, we have started our Measurement unit of work. We have been focusing this week on Time. At the start, we were looking at the different ways of measuring time — days, weeks, months, years, seconds, minutes and so many more! We were great at being able to convert between the different measures of time. Later on in the week, we moved on to telling the time. We started off by looking at analogue clocks which we were all familiar with. However, we then introduced digital clocks. This proved a little harder because we had to use what we knew about analogue clocks to represent the time in digits. We will continue to learn about digital clocks next week. It would be lovely to see as many of year 4 wearing watches to school next week to help us in our learning of time.

In our English lessons this week, we edited our present tense narratives from last week. Everyone produced amazing work! Now, we have moved on to write diaries of a Tudor Scribe. The character in our book is employed by Thomas Cromwell to work in his Scribe's office. This week, we compared our lives to that of a Tudor Scribe and tried to imagine what our life would be like if we took on this role. Using new vocabulary that we discussed as a class, we planned and wrote our diaries.

In History this week, we have learnt about Tudor clothing. In particular, we looked at the different names which clothes were given. We also looked at the difference between the clothes the rich and poor people wore. In Music this week, we have been gathering ideas for the lyrics we will use in the songs we are creating. We were then given some time to choose the instruments that we would like to use in our composition. As part of our DT lessons this week, we have been creating the frame for our wattle and daub. Next week, we will finish these off. In our RE lessons this week, we have completed our Holy Spirit unit of work. After learning about the Christian ceremonies (baptisms and christenings) we created posters explaining the importance and significance of them. Finally, in art this week, we have used charcoal to complete another Tudor portrait. Using the charcoal, we added light and shade to our pictures. They now are beautifully displayed in our studywork books.

We have had a busy week in Year 4 and I am sure many of us are ready for the weekend!
