What a busy week in year 4!

In our English this week, year 4 have been editing and improving their work. We have written up our Shakespeare biographies ready for our study work.

In maths, we have finished our decimals unit of work. In particular, we have learnt about hundredths. We have looked at how numbers can be divided by 10 and the relationship between this and dividing by 100. We can now divided one and two digit numbers by 100.

In history this week, we have learnt about Henry's six wives. Through research and answering questions we learnt about the lives of each of these women and the impact they had on Henry VIII's reign. We used a hot seat activity to ask the wives more about their life.

In RE this week, we started our new unit of work based on the Holy Spirit. We looked through resources to explore what role the Holy Spirit has in church. In particular, we looked at baptism's and discussed the role of the holy spirit in these events.

Through our science lessons this week, we have learnt about teeth. This is the first of our lessons on our Human Digestion unit of work. Using mirrors, we explored the amount of teeth each of us had and drew a diagram to represent the teeth we may be missing. We then moved on to explored the role of each of the teeth we have.

This week, we have also been celebrating Christian Aid in school. Year 6 went into each class and delivered an informative presentation in the importance of the work Christian Aid do for so many people. Year 4 participated in a variety of activities to learn and appreciate the work that they do.

As part of our staying safe week at school, year 4 have been part of many exciting workshops. On Tuesday, we were visited by GIST, each child was given the opportunity to step inside the cabin of one of their large lorries to show what the drivers can see and how important it is to stay safe on the roads. On Wednesday, we were visited by the blue cross to learn about how to keep safe around dogs and the warning signs to look out for if a dog is unhappy. On Friday, year 4 learnt about how quickly germs can be spread and the importance of washing our hands properly.

Finally, on Thursday, we had our visit from Roberts Bakery. Throughout the day, we learnt all about how bread is made in their factories and we even made some of our own. I hope it was as delicious as it smelt! Did you know Roberts Bakery make 1000 loaves an hour? They are also the only bakery in England to use recyclable packaging on most of their products!

We have had another fantastic week in Year 4! I hope everyone has a nice half term and a chance to relax and refuel ready for our final half term in Year 4!

See you soon,

Miss Welch
