We have had another fantastic week in Year 4!

At the beginning of the week we completed our non-chronological reports on our Mythical Creatures. We have then moved on to start to gather information for our next non-fiction report on Quidditch. Using different texts and the internet, the children found more information about the wizard sport — Quidditch. We will use this next week to write our 'Muggles Guides to Quidditch'. In our SPaG lessons, we continued to learn which spelling for there, their and they're should be used and learnt ways to remember this. We are all feeling much more confident knowing which correct spelling to use.

In our Maths lessons this week we learnt how to use estimating to help us check our addition and subtracting questions. We also used our knowledge of rounding to hundreds and thousands to help to add and subtract 4-digit numbers mentally. We then learnt how to use the inverse operations to check our working out. By using the opposite calculation, we were able to find mistakes and work out missing number problems. Finally, we used our knowledge of addition and subtraction to help us to work out the answers to word problems.

In DT this week we continued to work on our running stitch. Using the binka, we created two different sized running stitches. We varied the lengths of our stitch to do this. Some of us then went on to practise our running stitch on material which didn't have holes. This made it harder to do and we had to be careful how long our stitches were.

In our Science lesson this week, we started our new unit of electricity. In this lesson, we started to think about everything that is powered by electricity. We learnt how electricity is made and can be renewable and non-renewable. Using the iPads, we researched what renewable and non-renewable electricity is and how it is made. We used this information to write our own script to go alongside a short video clip.

In French this week we continued to learn more classroom instructions and are becoming confident saying these and following the instructions.

In our RE lesson this week, we began our new topic of incarnation. Saying with the theme of Good News, we looked at the Christmas Story. Using four characters from the story, we suggested how this represented good news, for example, the angels told the good news of a baby for Mary and Joseph.

We have had another fantastic week in Year 4 and hope you are all having a lovely weekend.
