What can you fit into 5 days of school. The answer: lots of learning a topic day and a trip!

This week in Maths we started our unit on shape and angles. Our focus was on right angles and turns! We looked at north, east, south and west and how we can use a right angle turn to help us with these directions. We also used the language 'clockwise' and 'anti-clockwise' — this let us know which direction to turn in! We will continue our investigations into angles/shape next week...

In English this week we finished our letters to the future prime minister all about stopping the litter problem in the UK. We used our research from last week to write a paragraph around ideas to stop litterbugs in the UK. They included fitting bins in cars, fining litter bugs and even giving every child on their 6th birthday a litter picker! We wrote persuasively using language like 'I believe this because' and 'this is a significant problem as'. On Wednesday we wrote up our letters to the future prime minister and hopefully they will listen and respond to us!

In French this week we recapped a tricky lesson from last half term. Comment ca va? Or how are you? This was the focus for our learning this week. We recapped the key points and learnt the different responses to the question, comment ca va? We learnt how to respond in a positive and a negative way. We played role play games to practise our new knowledge! Well done, Y3!

In Geography this week we once again thought about renewable and nonrenewable energy. We recapped last week's learning and decided to create some 3D models about different energy stations. We created solar farms, wind farms, a power plant and even an oil rig! It was amazing to hear the children explaining the different ways we can create power! We also had the chance to explore the world's largest solar panel farm and we used the iPads to MyMap to locate different wind farms in Europe! Fantastic stuff!

This week also saw the start of our daily mile. We've ran in pouring rain, dressed up as washing machines and even several iron men! We hopped, walked, skipped, jumped and sprinted for our 15 minutes this week, well done!

On Thursday it was our Topic Day! We started our day by playing either bottle-ball or creating our own word searches. After that we started our film with a cake! We then created our own robots in pairs, it was very funny! After break we could choose to either build lego robots or play an app called Meccanoid, with children creating their own virtual robot dances! Some children decided to code on CodeStudio and Kodable. After lunch we got comfy and finished off our film. We also had time to squeeze in the daily mile. It was very funny seeing washing machines, iron people, seagulls and farmers all running around the playground together. What a fantastic day, a big thank you to all the parents, who made our day so special with amazing costumes and fantastic food.

And to cap off a brilliant week in Y3, on Friday we headed to Ironbridge for our trip!
