Bon soir ! Comment ça va ?On Monday, after swimming, we had our next French lesson and learnt...
Year 3 Weekly News
This week we have been recyclers, time tacklers and even squeezed time in to share our Y3 class worship!
During Maths this week we wrapped up our unit on fractions. We completed our end of unit quizzes and went through them as a team. It was great to see that our knowledge of fractions has grown so much. We answered questions on wholes, adding/subtracting fractions and also fractions of amounts too! Well done!
On Tuesday our attention then switched to time. We began by looking at the months of the year, thinking about how many days each one had. We discussed the month of February and how leap years can affect the number of days this month has. From this, our Power Maths learning had us looking at telling time to the hour and to 5 minutes. Throughout our learning this week we have been using clocks and interactive resources, we even managed to sneak outside and do our work in the sunshine on Wednesday too! We will continue our time tackling next week...
In Book Club this week we read a text called 'The Failed Potion'. It was all about a witch who messed up her ingredients and got all upset. We did a whole class read and highlighted words/phrases we were unsure of. We discussed words like 'irreplaceable' and 'vital'. We then answered a number of comprehension questions on the text throughout the week, well done!
In English this week we planned, wrote and edited our own Iron Man chapter mini stories. We thought about what our chapter needed to include and used speech throughout. I was impressed at how everybody remembered to punctuate their speech correctly, but also how we remembered to include description as well as speech. This made our writing flow and sound more exciting!
In Science this week we completed our investigations into magnets, whilst also completing our Study Work page too! We discussed both our tests and findings, leading us to make some scientific conclusions in the process. With our new knowledge we sat a quiz for Miss. Pennance (our Science lead) and it was great to see children sharing their knowledge!
During Art this week we were able to finish off our work on cylinders and shading. We spoke about light direction and how our cylinders can be used to make a 3d effect once more. Using this new skill we were then able to recreate the Iron Man front cover. We used chalk and charcoal to create shade on our iron men. Children became experts and blending, using either their finger and a tissue to merge the two colours together, giving their drawings depth and contrast.
During R.E this week we continued to look at the Holy Trinity. We recapped last week's learning, with lots of us remembering the key components of the Trinity! We spoke about how we can use water, oranges and an egg as an example of the Holy Trinity too! Can you remember what they were? We then looked at more artwork/symbols with each table having their own huge symbol to investigate. We discussed what we thought they represented and then planned our 'Jane Perkins' style artwork. Through using recycled bottle tops we were able to bring different symbols of the holy Trinity to life! We will complete our artwork and work on the Holy Trinity next week!
In French this week we looked at the numbers 1-10 and played a really fun tennis game! It was great to see children working hard to perfect their accent and also lovely to see just how many children are soaking up the language in the lessons we have had so far. Très bon, Year 3!
Throughout the week we have also been perfecting our class worship. Our message was focused upon recycling and we used our R.E work to help us share the message with the rest of the school and parents during Friday's worship. The children spoke loudly and sang beautifully! Thank you to all those that came to make it that extra bit special!
Have a fantastic weekend,
