This week we've been loopy coders, dragon describers and Viking researchers....

In Book Club this week we have continued to read aloud, answer questions and change our books! On Friday we also practised some comprehension skills as a whole class! Well done, Y3 – I am super impressed with all the reading you've been doing at home, keep it up!

In English this week we wrapped up our unit on describing dragons. We used expanded noun phrases, linked our ideas and even used a simile or two! On Wednesday we wrote our own descriptions of Toothless' epic flight from the film and came up with some amazing descriptive writing – well done, Y3!

In Maths it has all been about the multiplying (and dividing of course!). We have now started to make links between times tables like 4 x 3 and 4 x 30 by making our answer x10 bigger! We used maths sentences to reinforce this! By Friday we were really rocking and rolling and were starting to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit numbers like 34 x 3 or 67 x 8! We used our TT knowledge to help us and broke it down into steps! Well done, Y3!

In Art this week, we've started to look at our new artist for the term, Antoni Gaudi. We learnt all about his techniques! We discovered his style of art was modernism and that he loved to use nature as inspiration for his buildings and sculptures. We learnt about trencadis and even had a go and creating our own 'broken tiled' mosaics in our sketchbooks! We also created a Gaudi picture board – full of his wonderful artwork in Barcelona! What Gaudi facts can you remember?

In History this week, we continued our investigations into the Vikings! We started with the big question of 'Who were the Vikings?' We used the iPads to research some key facts and used Google Maps to locate the group of countries known as 'Scandinavia' – can you remember them all? We found out that this is where the Vikings lived before they started invading other lands!

During R.E, we looked at our big question once more – 'What do parables tell us about the Kingdom of God'. This week we role played 'The Parable of the Sower and the Seed'. It talked about the importance of staying on the right path. We role played this in teams and showed the class our plays!

During French, we started our new unit on 'Classroom instructions'. We learnt a whole load of new French vocab and are starting to understand lots of different classroom instructions, tres bien!

During Music this week, we worked with Miss Holland to look at the tempo and beat of our new Viking songs. We can't wait to add instruments to them next week!

In Computing this week we completed our first coding session of the year. It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! It was great! Wait a minute! This week we looked at loops! A loop is a repeat instruction, we learnt they are used to save coders time and to limit the amount of code they have to write. We used practical examples like brushing your teeth and flossing! It was much easier to loop our code/instructions! We then completed our loopy lesson on Code Studio!

During Mindful Monday this week we listened to a guided meditation where we were transported to a tranquil forest, much needed on a Monday Morning!

Throughout the week we have continued to do our daily mile to keep improving our times/scores!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
