We have completed our first full week back at school and it was certainly a busy one.

In maths we have been learning about Place Value. We looked at what a digit is and how its value is dependent on the column it is in. We then learnt how to answer questions like 'Do you know the value of the digit 3 in 431?' Finally, towards the end of the week, we used this knowledge to help us order 3 digit numbers.

In English, on Monday, our classroom was transformed into a dragon's lair! We had to imagine what it would be like to walk through a cave and find a dragon sleeping in it- we came up with some excellent words. Then we moved on to describe the dragon that we found. We had to think hard about the different nouns and adjectives we were using because we then used these words to write a dragon description.

During our afternoon lessons, we have been delving into our topic and finding out when the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings came to Britain. First of all, we put key events from British history in order; we used the skills from our maths lessons to help us with this. Then, on Wednesday, our ordering skills were put to the test because we had to each create a timeline with just Anglo-Saxon and Viking dates — this has become our first piece of Study Work! On Friday, we learnt which tribes actually made up the Anglo-Saxons and where in Europe each tribe was from.
