Here is the round up of the last week in Year 3! In English this week, we used all the skills we have been learning over the last two weeks (writing speech including speech marks, using interesting sentence openers and adjectives in our writing) to write our own Lost in the Colosseum stories. You were so keen to use your own ideas for what could happen and they were a real treat to read afterwards! We are going to publish these for our study work books and have them on display too! Wow! We then linked our English to our 'Courageous Advocacy' work around using less plastic. We read 'Duffy's Lucky Escape' again and thought about the key parts in the story. We then answered the question...What can we do to help creatures like Duffy in the future? You came up with some great ideas.

We also gave out lots of handwriting pencils to use this week, with so many improvements in your letter formation. I have been blown away with how hard your are all working to make your writing super neat. Keep up the fantastic work!

In maths this week, we finished off our place value unit starting the week with comparing numbers to 1000. We then put our new knowledge from the unit to the test with an assessment at the end of the week. You then rated your confidence in the unit out of 5. It was lovely to compare your confidence from the first lesson we had a few weeks ago.

In music, we used GAB to do a call and response activity. Then we were asked to respond with a different riff... we found this a challenge not to play the same riff back! We are improving with the glockenspiels each week!

Our computing lessons this week meant we were movie makers! We continued with our project work using the app Stop Motion Animation. We remembered we needed to remember a few things to ensure our movies ran smoothly, like resting the iPad on a stand and using really small movements for our characters. We picked two or three characters and started with simple movements, taking 20 photos to make into a movie. We then added props to make a mini story for our movie. We really enjoyed watching everyone's movies back in class and sharing what we liked and what could be improved next time.

In RE this week, we asked 'What message do stories in the Bible have for Christians today?' We answered these questions as a class today and then wrote our own ideas. We discovered that God doesn't like 'showing off' and wants us to be humble. We also thought that the message from the story where Jesus calms the storm is that we need to remember that Jesus is always with us even though we can't see him.

In your forest school lesson this week, you investigated different trees in our school grounds, using their leaves, shapes and clues around the ground. You had another archery practise where you developed your skills and you entered the orchard to pick some tasty apples for foraging. Mr Hadfield showed you how to cook these special cooking apples on the fire and you even got to eat the tasty treats! Another fantastic forest school session for Year 3.

In the art lesson this week, our Roman Emperor plans took shape this week as we began to create our mosaic backgrounds. Using our repeated pattern ideas, we chose our three colours and got straight to work. One of the key things we had to remember, was to leave a small gap around each tile to represent the mortar. Our designs are looking good!

In PE this week, our focus was to dribble the ball with control, past our partner. We had to draw on our previously learnt skills to help us. We were also interceptors. In rotation, each group member became an interceptor whilst the other members of the group passed the ball using dummy passes. The passes became faster the more confident we became. Each of us had a go at being the interceptor and we worked really well in our teams. You also enjoyed another hockey session with Hayley from Sportscape.

We have also continued to work on our courageous advocacy work all about reducing plastic use. We looked further into plastic use in the ocean and finished off our bottle top art work ready for display.

I hope you have all had a restful weekend.
Miss McCurrie
