Year 3 learning this week

This week in English we have researched, written and edited information texts all about sharks. Once our first drafts were completed, we re-read our work and found ways to replace repeated nouns and check that subjects, verbs and tenses agreed. In this way, we were making editing decisions about our use of grammar. We've also been busy in book club, thinking about non-fiction books (dictionaries and atlases) and how to use them efficiently.

In maths, we continued work on shape, completed an assessment (and all did very well indeed), and then we made 3d models of shapes using plasticine and sticks. We had to name the shape we had made and share information about vertices, faces and edges.

During afternoons, we've learned all about rocks in science. We learned about the three main types of rocks, we thought about simple properties and worked scientifically to sort rocks in Carroll Diagrams. We used skills of observation to sketch chosen rocks and labelled their properties. Then we learned about fossils. We found out what fossils are and how they are formed...and even made some fossils of our own!

We've enjoyed a French lesson, PE and computing too.

Our educational visit to The Blue Planet has been booked and will take place on Friday, 5th February. How exciting. More news about this will come home soon.

It's been a very busy and productive week. Well done Year 3. I've seen some very lively brains at work!

Have a lovely weekend.
