We hope you enjoy this new collection of reimagined images and verses from Julia Donaldson and Axel...
Year 3 go live to Canada...
What a great experience Year 3 had today when we had the chance to Skype our new Native American Indian friend...Miss J of the Mi'kmaq tribe of Nova Scotia!
Thanks to Mrs Jones (Leo and Orlanda's mum), we made contact via Skype during the morning and spent a wonderful hour listening to Miss J perform traditional Native American songs, share the history of her family, her ancestors and of the Native American's in general and to see her regalia, which she donned for her presentation — which was at 6.45 a.m. in Canada and before her own day at work!
We learnt so much about her way of life and how tradition and modern living can work side by side. She shared information about their powwows, their way of praying and about the 7 key words which still drive their way of life including respect, courage and honesty.
Year 3 will think again about everything Miss J taught us later in the week.
Miss J has also promised to send us a traditional Mi'kmaq story and by return, we have promised to send her photographs of our very own powwow celebration.
Our thanks to Mrs Jones and Miss J for a truly memorable experience and a great way to extend our learning and find out more from a genuine Native American Indian.
Fabulous!
