Year 2 Working Outside the Classroom

Home » News » Year 2 Working Outside

This week we have left our desks and undertaken lots of practical activities to develop our speaking and listening skills, working as a team and resilience in problem solving.
Over the week all the house teams have earned house points for their work putting ripped catalogues back together, building the biggest tower with A4 paper and getting their house team across the sinking Moss (if you fell in Nellie Longarms got you!). Following the activities we thought about the 'verbs' we had been doing and giving instructions to other teams to help them.
In Maths we were measuring using decimetres (10 x 1cms) we found leaves of different sizes and measured them. We then moved onto using centimetres to measure. We also practised giving instructions to a robot using precise words and left and right. We remembered that our left hand has an 'l' on it if we look at the knuckle side outstretched.
On Wednesday we visited the Moss and were excited to see Nellie Longarms' house and kettle. We also saw interesting plants that eat insects, were used in the war to treat wounds and looked for the rare beetles and snakes that live there.
Friday was our baking day — we collected the apples from the orchard on the field, peeled and chopped the fruit before microwaving it to make it soft. In the afternoon we made the crumble topping and assembled our crumbles, choosing extra things to add to our recipe.
