Year 2 Weekly News

Home » News » Year 2 Weekly News

Another busy week in Year 2. In our RE lessons, we have read the story of the Thankful Leper and we role played the story, acting out the different parts. We then retold the story in our own words, thinking of how Jesus spread good news and helped others.

In our maths lessons, we have been working on place value and have used tens and ones grids, dienes, tens and ones counters and pictorial representations to help us partition numbers into tens and ones. I have been very impressed with your maths knowledge and we have had lots of maths stars this week!

Phonics lessons have began this week and the children have been grouped and work with their adult for 20/30 minutes every morning. Other adults from around school have told me how hard you are working and it has been great to come and see you working so hard.

In your science lessons, you have continued with your unit on materials and you are starting to think about what material would make a great superhero cape. You have learnt lots of new science vocabulary which has been great to hear.

In our English lessons we have been reading the Julia Donaldson story 'Superworm'. We made a habitat for Superworm and his friends and then wrote a letter to him to ask him to come and visit us. He then did come to visit us in the night and by the morning he had gone! We wrote lost posters to describe Superworm...hopefully he'll read our posters and he'll turn up soon!

We also had a special computing workshop called Now Play Pause where we brought out geography work on maps to life by listening to an adventure story through headphones and followed directions using our excellent map skills!

Thank you to our two mystery readers from this week. We loved the stories!

Well done for working so hard year 2. Have a lovely weekend.
