Year 2 Weekly News

This week in Year 2 we have been thinking about how we can look after our world. We started off small and focused on looking after our school and our ideas grew from there. A few children had the great idea of going out to litter pick around school after we saw a few pictures of how litter can affect our local wildlife. We got prepared with bags, gloves and litter pickers and worked in little teams to clean up any litter. We had planned to do the same around Wybunbury but storm Gareth didn't allow us to do that this week. We will continue our mission next week!

These ideas led into our English work and we wrote a letter to remind and teach people why they shouldn't drop litter on the floor. We will finish off our letters next week, I am very impressed with how well we have started them.

In maths, we have moved on to our unit on measurement where we have looked at accurately measuring in metres and centimetres. One of our power maths problems this week was can a 12 metre bus fit in your classroom? We used to metre sticks to measure length and width of the classroom and Solomon suggested diagonally which was a great idea! Unfortunately our classroom was too small all ways we tried! Our homework is a practical activity linked to measurement this week and is stuck in your purple homework books.

In the afternoons we have enjoyed getting stuck into science week! Our STEM challenge was to design and then make a package for an egg that would protect it so that it didn't crack or smash during an 'egg drop'! I was very impressed with the class' ideas and partner work. We then had a competition against Year 3 and although it was very close, 4 of our eggs survived the drop Vs. 3 of theirs! A great effort from both classes!

We have also started practising songs for our Year 1/2/3 Easter Service songs this week. I have also sent words home with children who wanted words in the service. Please learn these at home.

In PE we have continued with our gymnastics unit and explored different sequences using apparatus such as boxes and benches, including jumps, balances, rolls and turns.

Have a lovely weekend.
