We have had a busy week in Year 2. We started our week with our Design and Technology work. This term, we are focusing on sewing and have designed our very own magic faraway trees using templates, scissors and different coloured threads. We used a running stitch using a needle and thread to make our trees. We have put them up on our classroom display and we will now add detail with buttons and sequins to make them truly magical!
In English/Science, we have been learning all about parts of a tree and why each part is important. We have been learning about why trees are important to us and writing about it. We have examined trees stumps using magnifying glasses and looks at what their rings can tell us. We have also worked hard on our handwriting and some children have taken their work to Mrs Chesters and Mrs Burns to show off! Well done Year 2!
In maths, we have been learning all about the ÷ symbol. We have been sharing using candy canes and chocolate coins and we even got to eat some of them afterwards! The children have been looking at the relationship between x and ÷ and how we can use our clever counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us with dividing.
We have also already read to chapter 6 in the Magic Faraway Tree and are enjoying following the adventures of the characters. They have already got into lots of muddles and we are looking forward to hearing what happened next!
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss McCurrie
