Thank you to everyone who came and learnt with us this week it was lovely to see so many of you sharing learning with your children and we really enjoyed sharing with you. A few people asked to come on Friday and unfortunately we were full, I will look at the diary to see if we can add another session, but it will most likely be after half term now.
In Numeracy this week we have been using our knowledge of counting up and back to solve subtraction number sentences. We have had to decide which method to use and we have found it tricky. We decided together that when numbers are close together on a number line e.g. 53 — 48= it is easier to count up from the 48 to the 53 and find the difference between the numbers. If numbers are far apart e.g. 53 — 24 = it is easier to count back 24 from 53. We will be looking at this some more and there is homework for subtraction too.
In Literacy we have been looking at how fact files and fact books are set out. We have learnt that a glossary is in alphabetical order and explains what tricky words mean and we have looked at which tense is used. Today we got new books for doing 'Big Writing' in — we will be doing all our long writing in these books. We really enjoyed the challenge of writing a big page full of great work.
Our cushions are coming along nicely. This week we looked at some of the designs of Rennie Mackintosh who was an Art Deco artist and we designed a front panel for our cushion based on his work. Some of us were able to paint the panel using fabric paint.
We have also been completing our work on life cycles, we have looked at different life cycles on Espresso and made books about life cycles for our study work book.
Enjoy the weekend.
