We enjoyed a fantastic trip to Chester as part of our Romans topic. We enjoyed a hands on session learning about roman bath houses, kitchens and belongings and how archaeologists work. We found out why Chester, or Deva as the romans called it, was so important. The favourite amongst the children was the smelling bottles! The powder made from fish guts was certainly an experience!
After lunch we met our roman soldier! His name was Decanus Marcus Aurellius Nepos. We were kitted out with armour and a shield and taken on a tour of Chester. We went to the amphitheatre and learnt some excellent battle moves before heading back to the museum. We're all now super roman soldiers!
We were all beautifully behaved and all of the adults were very proud of us!

We've also had a brilliant visit from Gordon who came in to tell us all about metal detecting. He showed us his metal detector and all of the wonderful objects he has found. His metal detector was called a squeal and growl because it squeals when it finds important metal objects and growls when it finds rubbish! We even found out there may be a roman road at the top of the school field!!

In other work we have completed our New York skylines in art, learned about roman numerals in maths and written descriptions of some of the characters in James and the Giant Peach.
Please remember to bring PE kits on Monday, ready for Race for Life!

Have a lovely weekend!
