What a busy week! We had a very special day on Tuesday remembering World War One. Year 1s big question was 'why do we have poppies?' The children shared their ideas and work in worship on Tuesday. Our 'Flanders Field' art work looked very impressive all around the hall and we have had lots of lovely comments about our paintings. The poppy on the playground looked very impressive too and this is where we stood to take part in the 2 minute silence with the rest of the school.

In literacy, we have been writing letters. We have written a letter to a character from the Julia Donaldson story 'Snail and the Whale' and written to Julia Donaldson herself. We will be posting them next week! The children will be very good at writing their letters to Father Christmas!

In numeracy, we have moved on from finding one more and one less of 1 digit numbers, to looking at one/two more and one/two less of two digit numbers, all the way up to 99. We firstly did this practically using numicon, bead strings and number lines.
We then focused on recording these sums, using + — = and working neatly in our maths books.

Please check spellings book for this week's phonics sounds. Please visit www.phonicsplay.co.uk if you would like to play online phonics games at home. Click free games and choose games to recap sounds or focus on this week's sound. There is also an APP for tablets that can be bought called Twinkl Phonics which has lots of games/activities/letter formation for all phonics phases. The children use this in school too when we use the iPads.

Please check email for this week's homework.

Have a lovely weekend.
