It's been a little bit colourful in Year 2 this week!
As part of National Science Week we've carried out a variety of experiments, all based on colour. We've looked at Spider Squares, which started out small and a bit squishy, according to Zander. We added water and observed the changes. Harriet noticed that they sucked the water up and got bigger.
We tried a 'walking water' experiment, using five cups, three with different coloured water, and some kitchen roll. We watched as the coloured water 'walked' up the kitchen roll and by morning had mixed in the empty cups.
We looked at what happened when you added acid, lemon juice and vinegar or alkaline, bicarbonate of soda, to red cabbage water. We were amazed that acid turned it pink and alkaline turned blue!
We've also made gooey slime, a lava lamp and a volcano in a bottle. We've brought science in from home as well. We've had green slime and an entire Horrible Science set!
In English we've worked on our reading information retrieval skills and written our owl puppet instructions into neat for study work.
In Maths we've continued with fractions. We've taken on a Minecraft theme, watching a video about ordering fractions and setting ourselves a challenge to make our own Minecraft world of fractions!
In the afternoons we've been transferring our Geography learning, about the seasons, into our study work books. We've also been busy practicing our Easter service and are looking forward to sharing it on Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon. P.E will move to Wednesday morning, next week, due to the Easter service.
After such a busy week, we all deserve a well earned rest so have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday!
