In Year 2 this week, in English, we have been finishing off our instructional writing — How to make an owl puppet. We looked at the important features needed to write good instructions and their overwhelming favourite was using imperative verbs or 'bossy words!'
We have also practised assessments in reading and SPaG. We've used the skills we have learned in Book Club to locate and retrieve information and make inferences from a text. We've also discovered that time in the assessments is tight and we need to work quickly.
In Maths we have started a unit on fractions. We have learned about ½, ¼, ¾, and 1/3, investigated fractions of shapes and numbers and found out that fractions have equivalents like 2/4 = ½. We will continue with fractions next week.
In study work we have begun our Geography work on seasons in the UK and hot and cold places around the world. We watched an amazing time lapsed video of a tree, and its surrounding land, changing throughout the year. The children were impressed that we watched a whole years worth of video in just a few minutes! We have also continued our D & T by sewing detail on to felt leaves.
Next week we are looking forward to some exciting investigations in Science week.
Have a lovely weekend.
