So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...
Year 2 news
Welcome back to school!
Well...we've certainly hit the ground running in year 2!
We began the week with big art sessions. We've looked at Van Gogh's Starry Night, including a brilliant interactive version that moved! We then looked at painting techniques to create movement in our pictures and practised 'double loading' our brushes to blend colours on the paper. We have also explored many different paint effects on paper and these have then been used to create feathers on our small and large owls. Finally, we've created a moon out of buttons and beads, ready for our display.
In maths we have been looking at the properties of 3D shape. We've used mathematical language to describe shapes, rebuilt boxes and created symmetrical patterns with numicon.
In English we have been revising punctuation. We've learned when we should use different types of punctuation and used it to write a short story about Plop, the main character in our story, The Owl who was afraid of the Dark.
We have also begun our science research about animals and their babies. We've researched on the computers and Ipads and taken up Mrs Jenkins challenge to find the names of animal offspring! Did you know that a baby bat is called a pup? We still have two left to find, a baby lizard and a baby anteater! There are marbles on offer to anyone who can find out!
The children have worked hard this week and certainly deserve a rest this weekend!
See you next week!
