Year 2 news

And just like that it's December! This week in Year 2 we have been busy using adjectives to write our own farm stories. First of all, we looked at setting the scene of the story using adjectives to describe what we could see and introduce the characters. We then read the story "Wooly stops the train" where Wooly the sheep escaped the farm and got stuck on the train track. We then had a go at writing our own stories with a problem and a solution at the end. Children, what happened in your story?

We then had a think about how we could apply adjectives to describe the characters from our class story 'Fantastic Mr Fox'. We worked as a team and children were chosen to hot seat characters and we asked lots of questions to work out who they were. We then wrote our own character descriptions using our new exciting word choices.

In maths, we have had another look at adding together two two digit numbers, for example, 24+45 by breaking each number into tens and ones. We partitioned using the 'shark fin' method and by drawing tens and ones. Which method helped you the most to add together your numbers? This week's homework is linked to these strategies we have learnt this week.

In the afternoons, we have started practising our nativity and words have been given out to learn at home. Our songs are sounding lovely too! We can't wait to show it to you!

In our computing lessons, we have put the finishing touches to our PowerPoints. We have pulled it all together and have added animations, transitions, text and photos. I am really impressed! So many of you have done your own PowerPoints at home too. Thank you for this, we have loved sharing them with the class.

Thank you for the many parents and grandparents who came in this week to help us with our sewing project. The children really enjoyed themselves and are proud of their foxes. We think they will form part of our study work book covers. I'm sure you will agree they have turned out well! Thank you again.

Our book reviews are coming in from our year 2 reading website. Thank you to Emily this week who wrote a fantastic book review about Matilda by Roald Dahl. I know your review inspired a lot of us to choose Matilda as a book to share at home. Keep the reviews coming in if you haven't yet had a go.

We have welcomed Miss Addis this week who has joined us in Year 2 as part of her PGCE and has taught an English lesson and a phonics lesson this week. She will be with us until February time.

Have a lovely weekend.
Miss McCurrie
