This week in English, we focused on a non fiction piece of writing and found out all about the life of our author, Roald Dahl. We found out that before he was an author, he was in the RAF and fought in World War II and he was inspired to write his famous story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when he was at boarding school and he lived next door to a chocolate factory. We then used water colours to paint out favourite characters from his stories and important events in his life.

In maths we continued with our learning about money. We used coins to £2 to make different amounts and linked this to our number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. We also used our more than and less than signs with different amounts of money and applied our knowledge into real life situations. We will be continuing with this next week. Please encourage your children to get out their coins (or yours!) at home and explore the different coins.

In our phonics lessons, Miss McCurrie's group were learning about the suffix 'ed' and we named it adding Ed Sheeran, we have been looking for patterns and spotted 'Ed Sheeran' words all week! Mrs Parker's group were learning the 'or' sound this week and came up with so many words with the or sound in. They helped the Enormous Crocodile out when he couldn't blend words together by saying them and writing them. A great effort by all of the class this week.

In the afternoons we focused our learning on this week's theme of Anti Bullying week. We took part in a crumpled paper activity where the children thought about what we say to people can make them feel, especially if we say it over and over again. We then thought about how we could make this better and realised if we kept doing something over and over again, sorry didn't make it fully better. The children were so grown up and honest about their actions and feelings during this activity, I was very proud.

We also watched a video called This Is Jake and asked the question "can you still be friends with someone if they like different things to you?" Year 3 joined us to answer this and we decided the answer was yes! We can be respectful of peoples choices! Lots of fantastic answers and discussions were had between both classes.

In our RE lessons we started to think about the Nativity story and the role of the three kings in the story. We thought about what we would bring baby Jesus if we were able to visit him as a baby. What did you choose and why?

We had a special surprise on Tuesday when Mr Hunt visited us with his tractor and answered all about questions about tractors. We then got to sit in it and have our photo taken! Thank you to Mr Hunt for helping to bring our learning to life and for your time in visiting us.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Miss McCurrie
