Year 2 Farm Visit and Tractor Making

Home » News » Year 2 Farm Visit

We had a fantastic day at Stockley Farm last week! We saw pigs, cows, guinea pigs, goats, donkeys and birds of prey! We brushed a donkey called Babe, fed the chickens, held the guinea pigs and rabbits and learnt all about how we get milk from cows in The Story of Milk area. We watched a sheep race which was lots of fun! One of the cheeky goats kept trying to nibble our coats! Karen at Stockley Farm was very impressed with our knowledge of farms and the animals and the children were very keen to share their knowledge with the farmers. We then had a ride on a tractor which was very bumpy but lots of fun! Thank you to all of the children for being such keen learners and so well behaved on our school visit.

Back at school, we have been designing and making our tractors, as part of our Design and Technology project this term. The children have learnt all about wheels and axles and have made the frame for their tractor, measuring and cutting the wood using a hacksaw. How exciting!

In English, we have been learning about nouns and adjectives and have been looking at ways to make our sentences more interesting by adding more detail. This will help us for next week when we are writing our own farm stories.

In maths, we have been learning < and > signs. Children, can you tell your parents what they mean? Have a look at the maths picture. What is the sum?

Children, a reminder that you have weekly MyMaths homework to complete. Remember to log out once you have finished so I can see that you have completed it.

Have a lovely weekend.
