Year 2 Egg-citing Chick News!
What an egg-citing couple of weeks we have had in year 2! Last Monday, we found we had had an exciting delivery when we arrived at school...9 eggs and an incubator! We learnt all about how to look after the eggs and what would happen over the next few days. By Wednesday, we had our first two chicks and by the end of the week, 8 of the 9 chicks had hatched and were happily cheeping in our brooding box. Mrs Parker took them home over the weekend to look after and we couldn't believe how much they had grown by Monday! The children have been looking after the chicks so well, being gentle and quiet around them and taking care when stroking them. We even had a few chances to get them out in the classroom and some children had a stroke or a cuddle with them. We then named them...Fluff Ball, Cuddles, Babe, Gizmo, Belle and Boris. Later, we Skyped Lewis and he wanted to call one of them Neville. We then asked James (our farmer expert from last term!) in year 5 to name the last chick. He chose 'Mrs Burns' for the name! James has been an excellent helper, using his knowledge of looking after animals to give us advice and has volunteered to look after them on his farm as they grow up. He has promised photos and regular updates, and even eggs when they are ready!
Thank you kindly to Karen from Stockley Farm for lending us the incubator and all the equipment. We will be writing thank you letters next week!
In other news, we have been writing using the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' this week, with some of us writing over a page! We focused on using interesting word choices, sentence openers and punctuation. I look forward to reading them all.
Have a lovely weekend!
