Year 2 and the Giant Peach!

Home » News » Year 2 and the Giant Peach!

Welcome back year 2!
We've certainly hit the ground running!
We've begun reading our story, James and the Giant Peach, which we are already loving!
It's been big art week and we've produced not one, but two, study work book covers. We looked at Roman mosaics and produced our own monochrome versions of a Roman boat, then we used a special batik pot and tools called tjantings, to create batik as part of D & T. We used a picture from James and the Giant Peach as inspiration for our batik which we then painted with fabric paints. The end results are brilliant! We have also created a 3D peach in paper mache and seagulls from cardboard tubes. We'll put these together to hang from ceiling as part of our display.
In maths we have been learning about statistics, looking at tables, tally charts and bar graphs and how we find and interpret the information in them.
In English we have been writing book reviews based on our previous book, The owl who was afraid of the dark. Mrs Charlesworth's group have been focusing on writing descriptions.
We've also enjoyed P.E., R.E. with Mrs Taylor as well as Science and ICT with Mrs Bradbury-Smith.
It has been lovely to see you all back so refreshed!
Have a wonderful weekend!
