Year 1's Weekly News

Our first week back after half term has been great! We all came back into school ready to learn, so well done Year 1!

In English this week we wrote about our adventures in our half term holidays and used some very special words like 'and' and 'because'; these helped to improve our writing! We also wrote a letter to Mr. Fireman, asking if the fire service would like to visit our classroom. Our letters were that great that they replied to us and came in the next day! It was amazing!

In Maths we looked at sequences and focused on our twos, fives and tens. We practiced counting and found patterns using the splat square (I've put a link in so children can carry this on at home — . We also looked at fractions like ½ and ¼ using shapes, we are getting quite good at these!

We learnt all about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We talked all about the gunpowder plot and did our own drama piece revolving around how we would sneak the gunpowder into the Houses of Parliament, it was very fun! I can't wait to hear some of your stories from Bonfire Night!

We also loved seeing William's rocks that he had brought back from holiday, they were from a volcano! Thanks for sharing Will!

As mentioned earlier, we had a special visit from the fire service. We loved hearing about what the fire service do and we had lots of questions too! We said that it is a shame the fire service weren't around in 1666 to help deal with the Great Fire of London! We went inside the fire engine and even got Mr. Dale kitted up into the gear, it was very heavy! I think he'll stick to being a teacher just for now!

Have a lovely weekend and I can't wait to see what next week brings!

Mr Dale
