So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...

Y6 you are just superstars. There are no other words to describe how I feel about you all in these...
Year 1's week
Another lovely week in year 1. In literacy, we enjoyed writing our recounts of the trip to the theatre. We focused on using time words and extending our sentences, using 'and' and 'because.'. The children have then written their recounts into neat ready for their study work books. I am very impressed with the standard of the handwriting, well done year 1!
In numeracy, the children have been learning to recognise coins up to £1 and learn the value of these coins. We have been looking at what coins we can use to make different totals. The curriculum does not allow much time to be spent on money so please encourage your child to talk about coins at home, while paying for things etc. The expectation by the end of year 1 is that children can recognise, and know the value of, coins up to £1. There are a few games online which your child might enjoy, including
Www.ictgames.co.uk "pay for it"
In the afternoons, we have been learning about the history of Chester Zoo. The children have enjoyed being History Detectives, looking for clues about Chester Zoo and have learnt about how Chester Zoo was first started, who worked there and whether people were happy about it. We have also drawn and painted maps of Chester Zoo ready for our Chester Zoo Fact Book. We have also found some fascinating (and funny!) facts about Chester Zoo over the years, including a cheeky elephant that stole a ladies handbag using his trunk and a unlikely friendship between the pet dog and a lion at the zoo. Children, make sure you share all your new learning about the zoo with your parents. We also found out that the idea for Chester Zoo all began in the village of Shavington!
Thank you for all your research about penguins. We enjoyed sharing our new facts last week. Next week's animal is a...giraffe. Our work so far has gone into a class book which the children have enjoyed looking at and sharing. Children, do you have any interesting facts about giraffes that you can add to our working wall?
Another big thank you to everyone who brought in material to add to our class Elmer rug and to the parents who helped us with our sewing. A huge thank you to Mrs Bratt for taking it home and working her sewing magic! The children (and staff!) have been showing it off to everyone. What a wonderful addition to our classroom. Thank you for your time.
Enjoy the weekend.
