Year 1's Big Art Week

Home » News » Year 1's Big Art

The first week of a brand new term means two things; Big Art and a brand new topic!

On Tuesday we had a letter from Mr Grinling, we were amazed to find out he is from our story! He told us that he had transformed the classroom to look like where he lives, but he forgot the most important part, the lighthouse!

So...Year 1 set about making him one, we used a collage technique to make a big, bold and brilliant lighthouse for Mr G. We also spotted some seagulls in the story too and decided to make some for our display from bottles and cardboard, they will be flying on our display next week!

We have also nearly completed our study work front covers. We used a picture from a story to use as inspiration. Firstly we watercolored a light blue, sunset sky. Next we designed our own lighthouse and little white cottage. We finished by scrunching up paper to create the cliffs. All we need now is the basket and the wire going across the sea!

In English we have used pictures to describe the two characters we have met so far. We described both Mr G and Mrs Grinling, we came up with lots of clever descriptions, well done Year 1.

In Maths we practised our adding and subtraction. Children, can you remember which number you put in your head, is it the big number or the small number?

Bryn gave us another amazing guitar solo, this time with backing music, we loved it, go Bryn!

Next week we are learning about Grace Darling and her heroic efforts. We also have a very special visitor coming in to meet us! CLUE* He likes water and saving people — who do you think it could be, children?

If you have any resources that you think would help with our Grace Darling topic, then please bring them in, thank you!

Have a brilliant weekend...

Mr Dale
