What a lovely week we have had year one both in school and at home. To have some of the children return to school has been wonderful, the hall has been filled with so much joy and laughter. We can see this everywhere in school. I am so proud of how well you have coped with all of the changes, we can all learn a lot from you! We are missing all of the children at home too and all of the children keep talking about you all.

In English this week, we have been thinking about significant people in our lives and in history. We started by creating a piece of writing on the most important person in our lives. We thought about how these people are good role models e.g. kind, honest and funny. You then went onto learn about the amazing Florence Nightingale and why she made such a huge positive change in history. You all thought of questions you wanted to ask her and I was so proud with the question marks you were using at the end of your questions. You thought about what were hospitals like before and after Florence Nightingale this helped to show the positive change she had. We finished the week with a fact file, presentation or news report on all of the information about Florence Nightingale and I was so proud of how much work you did! You are amazing fact finders!!

In reading, you have been watching Rosie and developing your phonics. You have been reading lots and I am so proud of you. If you want to send more videos in of your reading you are more than welcome to and we will share them with the class. In school, I have been teaching the phonics and we have loved it! You have all been so engaged and we have been giggling along.
In maths this week, we have been learning about our numbers to 100. You have made Mrs VR and I SO SO SO proud! We have been amazed with your fantastic learning. You created a 100 by grouping different items in your house in 10s and you all took some lovely photos on seesaw to share with me. You have completed wonderful power maths questions on counting to 100 and using a hundred number square grid. You've also been super clever and partitioned (split) your numbers into 10s and 1s. You have just blown me away this week with your determination in maths. In school we have been working back in our power maths books and I was shocked at how well you did. It's like we've never been away.

In our foundation subjects we have been learning about significant people in history which linked in very well to our English work. You have also been swimming in your pools, gardening and going on lots of walks and bike rides.

In school we have been doing lots of mindfulness activities and we have focused on art. We created a colour wheel on primary colours which we mixed together to make our secondary colours. We found out that we can create different shades of one colour by adding black and white paint. We first went out with a B&Q colour chart to find different shades of colours outside and then we came in and created our own colour chart using the three primary colours. We finished the week with learning how to do a wax resist. We did a wax resist of a beach setting and a sea animal. They were beautiful!

Wow year one, I am just beaming after this week. I have waited so long to have some for you back and my heart has never stopped smiling. I am so lucky that I get to see some of you in school and some of you virtually. Thank you everyone for making me laugh so much this week. It has just been amazing.

I wish you a lovely weekend and let's hope that sunshine comes back out.
See you on Monday,
Miss Haynes
