Year 1 Weekly News

The Year 1 classroom has been a very enthusiastic one this week! Everybody has had their learning hats on and this has shined through in the work you have produced, a huge well done!

In English this week we focused once again on retelling a story, looking at the book: Elmer and the Lost Teddy. Children listened to the story, drew their story maps and then created a word bank. We were then able to all write super recounts with some children even using and or because to expand their sentences, super work!

In Maths children looked at addition and subtraction. We have done lots of practical acitivites on the carpet to reinforce different methods children can access and used when faced with an addition or subtraction problem. We then translated this into our books through pictures and number sentences; everybody has tried brilliantly with their Maths this week! We also looked at word problems, we had to become detectives to find the important bits in a word problem! Well done!

In topic this week children completed their computing unit and even managed to finish their computing study work page. It was so great to see all of the children working in pairs and using the iPads and the app; Puppet Pals so effectively. Children have developed their skills over the unit and can now confidently use an iPad app to create something they can be proud of; their very own play. Children were able to take and add pictures, record and add sound and even story mapped to ensure their play made sense! What a brilliant study work page you all have now!

In Geography this week with Mrs Pointon, children learned all about their home nation; England. Children learned key facts and their knowledge of London from last topic really shone through, well done guys!

In R.E with Mrs Taylor, children wrote beautiful recounts of their visit from Ann Angel, it was lovely to hear the children so enthused by the visit and their willingness to share this through a fantastic written piece!

All in all another brilliant, exciting and enjoyable week has been chalked off in Year 1, we look forward to the next 4 days before half term for a well earned rest and before you know it...THE ZOO!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
