Year 1 Weekly News

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas this week in Year 1! We have done lots of Christmas activities and sang lots of Christmas songs!

In English this week we looked at writing a recount of our topic day. Children discussed their favourite parts of the day, drew a storyboard, planned their work and then finally completed a full recount of the day's events! After reading them it sounds like the children had a great time!

In Maths we have been recapping addition and subtraction in a Christmassy way! We have been using Christmas pictures to colour, but we had to find the answer first to know which colour to use! Children loved these and I will send some out before Christmas so that they can do some at home! We also practised our 2s, 5s and 10s; we played lots of fun games to help us with this!

In the afternoons, Mrs. Taylor continued with R.E and the children looked at the meaning of Christmas and what it represents for Christians, children carefully thought about this and responded with some beautiful ideas. In Geography, with Mrs Pointon, children continued their learning about continents and oceans. Children created beautiful globe baubles, I'm sure they are going straight onto the tree!

We also completed our Christmas cards and they look great! Children really took their time with them as they wanted to make them beautiful as they were for parents and carers. We practised our cutting, colouring and writing skills, we hope you like them!

We also finished off our leftover cakes from topic day, but we had a bit of a problem! The Naughty Bus ate the last bit of Seb's gingerbread, the children blamed Mr. Dale but he said that it was the Naughty Bus! We did find it funny!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
