Another fantastic and enjoyable week has flown on by in Year 1, well done guys!

In English this week we have completely rewritten our class story: Class Two at the Zoo. Children started by thinking about which animals they would see and what they would be doing, linking to verbs. We had lions lying around, monkeys making mischief and even a creeping crocodile! We then looked at mapping our story out using a story planner; we had some big choices to make! Children chose which children in the class would be gobbled up by the anaconda and who would eventually save the day, Mr. Dale got eaten in quite a few stories! We then wrote up our stories in our English books with lots of children managing to write a page or more, WOW! I will be busy marking this weekend! 

In maths we began a new block of multiplication and division, specifically focusing upon odd and even numbers, our x2, x5, and x10s and also sharing and halving. We started the week with Odd Todd and Even Steven. We found the song very catchy and loved to sing it throughout the week, I think it is only fair that the children share the song with your parents, how did it go again? parents — enjoy and sorry in advance! haha. We found out how to spot an odd and even number and know we can just use the last digit to tell us. We also helped Mrs. Casserley with a stationary crisis by grouping different items through using our knowledge of the x2, x5, and x10 time's tables, well done!

In R.E with Mrs. Taylor children were asked the question, who is a leader to them and why are they important? Lots of children had brilliant ideas and were able to explain why their leaders were important. In P.E children practised their basketball technique, perfecting the perfect bounce! In Geography with Mrs. Pointon children learned all about Kenya and how it is a very different place to Wybunbury!

Our History topic this week has been based around Chester Zoo and more importantly a man called George Mottershead! We learned that he was the founder of Chester Zoo and his home, Oakfield House, is still in the Chester Zoo grounds! We learned all about the timeline and even took on the challenge of becoming a zoo entrepreneur ourselves! We created our own zoos and designed our own enclosures, whilst all the while thinking about safety and practically (although we did have a couple of lion enclosures without fences!)

We also loved sharing our books on World Book Day, we shared some brilliant books!

I look forward to what next week brings!

Have a super weekend,

P.S 11 sleeps until the Zoo!

Mr. Dale
