We have had a super week with lots of new learning happening! Everyone has immersed themselves into the new topic and it is safe to say that we are loving animals and the zoo as a topic!

In English this week we have become fact finders! We have been reading non-fiction books and finding out all sorts of interesting, weird and crazy facts about lots of different animals. George told us that some snakes can spit their venom up to 3 meters! Freya found out that elephants can't jump and Sam B told us that tigers eyes can glow in the dark! We wrote our favourite facts down in our books and even made posters!

In Maths we looked at time and learnt how to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, we loved playing with the clocks on the carpet! We also looked at the days of the week, learning some very catchy songs in the process! The children then helped Mr Dale to put the months of the year back in order, as he had forgotten them!

We carried on our art this week also. We created our study work front covers, using ripped paper and watercolours to represent the African sunset, with children then cutting out their very own giraffe silhouette to produce a striking front cover! We have also been learning the style of French artist; Henri Rousseau. We have loved looking at his work and have had a go ourselves! We used his famous painting, Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!), to talk about foreground, background and layers. We used oil pastels to create our very own version of the painting and they should be ready for display on Monday!

Children continued their Geography and Music work with Mrs. Pointon, creating some super Union Jack flags. Whilst Mrs. Taylor was very impressed with the children's beautiful watercolour pictures in R.E.

All in all we have had a very arty week in Year 1 and our classroom is looking fantastic thanks to all the artwork that is now on display, children have taken their time with their work and should be very proud of what they have achieved this week, well done Year 1!

We found out about the trip to Chester Zoo with our classroom getting a letter from a zookeeper and a with few strange animals running around too! Roll on next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr. Dale
