Another action-packed week as flown by in Year 1! Full of tigers in storms, exploring our senses and even learning about a foreign world called Scotland, we have certainly earned a weekend rest!

In English this week we have been talking about instructions and how we use them in daily life. We now know that instructions are quite bossy and definitely have to go in order! We reordered lots of instructions to make sure they made sense. We then had a go at writing our own set of instructions! We wrote instructions for washing our hands and even wrote some instructions for Jake the Snake so he knows our morning routine!

In Maths we continued to explore time. We had a huge investigation where we used stopwatches to find out who was the fastest hopper in Year 1! We talked about which days come BEFORE and AFTER particular days. We ordered things from slowest to fastest; all deciding that although Usain Bolt is fast he is not as fast as a race car!

In Art we finished our Henri Rousseau inspired artwork; they look fantastic and sit pride of place on our wall! Children really took their time in making a striking oil pastel background and a carefully cut tiger that they drew themselves using observational drawing skills! A huge well done to everybody in Year 1 completing their first study work page!

In Science we began to look at ourselves. We discussed what makes a human and labelled lots of different body parts. We then looked at the 5 senses that a human possess, we experimented with our 5 senses and found it very funny when Mr Dale said he could smell some very smelly children! Next week we will compare ourselves to some different animals, it should be very interesting, I wonder how much we have in common with a giant anaconda?

In R.E children did some beautiful writing with Mrs Taylor about how Judaism and Christianity is celebrated, whilst in Geography and Music with Mrs Pointon children worked very hard too! The children produced some super Scotland facts to Mr Dale!
Another week goes by and I'm sure next week will bring lots more fun, learning and laughter!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
