Another brilliant week in the Year 1 classroom has passed us by!

In English this week we looked at retelling our class story; Class Two at the Zoo. We started by reading the story and reordering it to make sure it made sense. We then created our own story maps using pictures to retell the story. After that we set about making a word bank to help us with our spellings. We were then ready to write up and retell our class story. Mr. Dale had a very proud teacher moment when he saw that everybody was working hard; using their story maps and word banks to help them work independently. The work was fantastic, well done Year 1!

In Computing, children began their unit of work. This term we will be using the app Puppet Pals 2 to create our very own play using the iPads. Children are already able to add characters, create a setting and add sound to their plays and we will continue to develop this further next week.

In Maths children continued to look at place value. Children looked at 2 digit numbers and found out that they are made up of tens and ones! We practised our counting up to 100 and loved the rap song to help us with our 2s, 5s and 10s. I will leave the link here if you wish to play it at home (WARNING — it may drive you bonkers) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq3cDj3Uj3I-. We also had a question hunt and had to answer lots of different place value questions, there was even a question on the roof!

In Geography with Mrs. Pointon, children continued their learning about the U.K and this week's focus was Northern Ireland. Children learnt all about the country and found out some very interesting facts, Finn told me that the Titantic was built there! In Music children practised their musical timing and tempo using the glockenspiels — spellcheck needed! and it was lovley to hear some amazing music coming from the Year 1 classroom.

Children also had double P.E this week. The first part of the session saw the children posters about people who inspire them in sport. It was lovely to see that some children had actually picked other children in the class, with Sam saying that Bryn inspires him in Basketball!

Also a big shout out to Grace and George who read the whole class a story — this has inspired other children to do so and lots of children now want to become the "teacher" and read for the class, which is great!

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Mr Dale
