Year 1 Weekly News: Bee careful in the classroom!

Home » News » Year 1 Weekly News

The weeks are just zooming by... Yet again we have managed to cram so much into our week, we've done lots of new learning, created amazing study work and even saw the world's (possibly) biggest bee in the middle of our English lesson!

In English this week, it wasn't just the bee the children were focused upon! It was capital letters and full stops too! This week we have been investigating about what makes a good sentence, looking at capital letters, full stops and whether it makes sense or not. Everybody has had to use their knowledge of the high 5 check and have done a super job with helping Mr. Dale with some of his sentences and then creating their own! Well done!

In Maths we finished our multiplication and division topic. We used sweets to look at sharing and division. We quickly learnt that you need to be fair by making sure you have an equal amount! We loved eating the sweets! We looked at some very tricky word problems, but managed to work out what they were asking and had a go at answering them, we were very resilient, a super effort all round. We also went onto the playground and used the chalk to answer questions like "What are 3 groups of 5?", we then used our clever counting to help us find the answer!

In History we finished our learning about Chester Zoo and George Mottershead. We found lots of interesting facts and used a Chester Zoo map from 1984 to compare it with the map we will be using to get around the zoo on Tuesday! Children noticed lots of differences and some similarities, can you remember any? Children finished their History study work leaflet by comparing now and then pictures from zoos in the past and present. Children noticed that old zoos had a lot of animals behind bars with much less space, whilst new zoos had huge enclosures with lots of natural resources!

Next week will surely fly around and that means two important and exciting things. Number 1 is that it is Science Week! Children in Year 1 have a science lesson with Mr. Tibbets on Wednesday that will surely be amazing! On Thursday we will then get to go into the star lab, I'm sure we will absolutely love it! AND THEN number 2 is that on Tuesday we have our class trip to Chester Zoo!!! We have a very, very, very excited class (teachers included) and cannot wait to go! Please be reminded that children will be coming into school at normal time and will need to be wearing their school uniform, please prepare a lunch for your child and bring this in a lunchbox or bag. Thank you!

Have a super weekend,

Mr Dale
