A Year 1 pipe dream: Big Art

A Year 1 pipe dream: check out our Big Art!

Our first week back has been so great! Everybody has come back with lovely stories about Christmas and their time spent with families and friends and it was so nice to see everybody smiling coming into the school on Wednesday! I loved seeing the children's facing when they realised the classroom had been turned into a jungle, I think they guessed we were learning about animals very quickly! Although we've only had three days to settle back in we have hit the ground running and completed some super work already!

We completed our Big Art project with amazing results, the children have done a superb job! We started to read our class story: "Class Two at the Zoo" and it was going well, UNTIL...We found a note from the anaconda in our story, he said "I was only watching the children because I was bored and have no other anaconda friends to play with". So we decided the make our very own class anaconda to make him feel a bit less lonely! Luckily that day Mr. Dale had brought in his drainpipe from home, we decided this had a snake-like shape so used it for our class snake! We used paper mache to cover the snake and then we all created our very own snake scales! We loved talking about the snake scales and even got to see lots of different snakes on the screen! The King Cobra was our favourite! We then created our own snake scales using 3 colours and set about making a very colourful pattern. Once we have stuck all our scales together, the effect was very colourful! We had a vote to name our snake, our final 3 choices were; Slithery, Jake and Pip and it was Jake that was our overall winner, Jake the Snake! Which name did you choose, children? Jake the snake is hanging proudly below our pipes, we will have to see if the anaconda in our story gets on with him! We also started work on our very first study work piece; our front covers! They're not finished yet, but I'll leave a picture to keep you guessing what they will become...

Just a quick note to say thank you for all the gifts and cards at Christmas, they were much appreciated and I hope you all had lovely Christmas!

Homework will be given as normal come Monday

Bring on next week!

Mr Dale
